Sortir par la porte
une tentative d'évasion
In Sortir par la porte, une tentative d'évasion, Juan Ignacio Tula revisits and shares a memory from his adolescence. He spent a long period confined in a detox center in Buenos Aires.
Inside a three-meter-diameter wheel—a unique apparatus—spinning endlessly around him, he navigates a whirlwind of memories where past and present intertwine in the form of autofiction. With self-irony and vitality, Juan attempts to find the best way out, laying bare his past in a raw and captivating performance.

L'Instant T
Creation 2022
Juan Ignacio Tula creates a performance titled "Instante", the result of an in-depth exploration with his object of obsession, the wheel. Today, the artist offers an in situ form where "Instante" continually transforms into L'Instant-T, becoming a raw material in perpetual transformation. In the turmoil of dance, we dive into a trance, an endless quest for universal and personal connection to share. In the simplicity of a rotating and repetitive movement, the circus gesture leads us into a dervish dance; from the blindness caused by spirals emerges the survival instinct, where the body commits fully, on the edge of the inflection point where everything becomes infinite.

Lontano
Creation 2022
Lontano is a co-creation between Marica Marinoni and Juan Ignacio Tula.
In this performance, where the Cyr wheel serves as a totemic object, acrobat Marica Marinoni pushes the limits of the body, raising several questions: What is the place of our body today? Why do we choose to engage our body? What does a body want?
Through a dialogue between flesh and wheel, Marica develops a hypnotic and sensitive language centered around the theme of resistance. With tenacity and overflowing energy, she takes risks, rolls, dodges, and resists: Lontano becomes a cry of resistance in the battle of a life that pulses. Blow after blow, fall after fall, Lontano ultimately transforms into a dizzying and relentless dance.

Instante
Creation 2018
Circus Artist and Dancer, Juan Ignacio Tula explores the possibilities of his apparatus, the Cyr wheel. Through an interplay of forces and counterweights between metal and body, within the expression of centrifugal force, a field of possibilities and discoveries unfolds inside the wheel. How can the state of exhaustion encountered through a simple, rotating, and repetitive movement inscribe itself into the body?
From the blindness induced by spirals emerges the instinct for survival, where the body commits fully, nearing the inflection point where everything becomes infinite. Instante is the materialization of this journey to the center of oneself.
Through dance and physical performance, Juan questions his own limits, leading us to the edge of hypnosis, disrupting our perception of time, and offering us a reflection of perseverance and humanity. In this journey of elevation, he questions and reveals himself.

Conception and performance by
Hakim Bah & Arthur B. Gillette & Juan Ignacio Tula
Pourvu que la mastication ne soit pas longue is the result of a meeting between three artists, three disciplines, three continents, and three journeys. At the crossroads of myth and the contemporary, Hakim Bah, a playwright with numerous works to his name, reinterprets the tragic in our current societies. Juan Ignacio Tula, a circus artist and dancer, a virtuoso of the Cyr wheel, explores and pioneers the possibilities of this apparatus. Arthur B. Gillette, founder of the band Moriarty, guitarist, and composer with a taste for wandering and ethereal landscapes.
They question police misconduct through a documented fiction based on a real event: the death of Amadou Diallo, a young Guinean man shot 41 times in the Bronx on February 4, 1999, by four New York City police officers. A deep dive into this case that shook America and the media.

Tiempo
Création 2021
Continuing the exploration of his signature apparatus, the Cyr wheel, Juan Ignacio Tula invites Justine Berthillot to co-write and share the stage of Tiempo.
In this creation, two characters inhabit a confined space that spins on itself, like a revolving stage at arm's length, filled with basins and wandering movements, where the inside of the Cyr wheel becomes the heart of the play. From this duo emerge ordinary, almost daily scenes, offering relational stories that are both supportive and solitary, from which one can only escape through projection or fantasy. And from this way of life where everything becomes a satellite, with bodies and objects orbiting, Tiempo then transforms into a swirling and hypnotic dance.
